When I was a child, my favorite book was Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren. Now, I’m not a child anymore and my favorite book is still Pippi Longstocking. Astrid Lindgren is one of the most if not THE most important cultural personality in Sweden during all times. She fought for the rights of both children and animals. Thanks to her, Sweden was the first country in the world to prohibit child abuse and any kind of physical punishment of children. Later on, the Prime Minister of Sweden asked her what she wanted for her 85th birthday. She replied that she wanted to have a law that gave all cows in Sweden three months holiday every year. So after that, all cows in Sweden are allowed to walk freely in the forest and on the fields for three months.
Astrid Lindgren wrote 40 books that have been translated to many langauges. Her first books were about Pippi Longstocking and her last books were about Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter.
Ronja is also my favorite. She is a brave girl who tires to bring peace in a difficult situation. She lives on a mountain in the wild and dangerous Swedish forest, but she is never afraid. A great role model for all women all over the world. I remember where she says: “I’m afraid of swimming in the ice cold water in spring, so then I really have to do it to get rid of the fear.”
